Intersections to appraoch with a little extra caution

The City of Colorado Springs has released annual statistics about the city's worst intersections for traffic accidents, and it appears that accident numbers have continued to decrease for the third year.

The city ranks the most accident-prone intersections based on traffic volume, the number of accidents and accident severity. The higher the score, the worse the intersection.

Last year's top 10 top accident-prone intersections were:

1.) Briargate Parkway and Powers Boulevard

2.) Palmer Park Boulevard and Space Center Drive

3.) Rangewood and Vickers drives

4.) Nevada Avenue and Southgate Road

5.) Lake Avenue and Venetucci Boulevard

6.) N. Powers Boulevard and Research Parkway

7.) Barnes Road and Powers Boulevard

8.) N. Carefree Circle and Tutt Boulevard

9.) Fountain and Union boulevards

10.) Airport Road and Academy Boulevard

I was inches from being hit at #7...when I stopped for a red light and a big van behind me decided he couldn't...squealing smoking brakes and all he swerved into the next lane, nearly hit a big semi and went speeding through the red light.
